O Conceito de ignorância no livro da Sabedoria

O livro da Sabedoria emprega o conceito de ignorância na digressão sobre a idolatria (Sb 13–15). Embora possa passar inadvertida, tal concepção é fundamental para a explicação da origem da idolatria, bem como para a caracterização dos idólatras e dos ímpios segundo o autor. Ao contrário do que poderia parecer, a ignorância não é uma simples falta de conhecimento, mas um estado de maldade moral, contra o qual o livro da Sabedoria procura advertir o leitor. Tendo como centro o elogio e a súplica da sabedoria divina (Sb 7–9), a obra visa preservar os judeus de Alexandria daqueles que o autor considera como frutos da ignorância: a religiosidade racionalista, a falta de confiança em Deus, o sincretismo e a idolatria. A ideia de ignorância é elaborada a partir de uma síntese entre a concepção de ignorância presente, respectivamente, na Septuaginta e na filosofia helenística. A ignorância é análoga a certos conceitos fundamentais do livro, como “maldade” e “opinião vã” ou “erro”. Tal noção é útil, ainda, para a investigação do ambiente cultural do livro da Sabedoria, de suas possíveis fontes e do eventual influxo dessa obra sobre o Novo Testamento.
