Biblical fundamentalism is a movement that was born within the North American Protestant community, in reaction to the achievements of science and the cultural environment of the 19th century. Among its principles, biblical inerrancy and the concept of verbal inspiration associated with it are those that produce the greatest
consequences for biblical reading. As a result, the fundamentalist reading of the Bible is characterized by a conception of the relationship between God and the sacred author, in which there is a guarantee of the absolute absence of errors. However, this statement may contain nuances that allow us to perceive the tension it provokes, so that current fundamentalism may represent a reaction to the new postmodern subjectivity. In this sense, there is no reason to believe that the warnings in the Interpretation of the Bible in the Church document are a defense against the fundamentalism of others, as we are all subject to the same cultural conditions that favor the persistence of fundamentalism within our Christian communities.
